Mopa or Dabolim? Which Airport to Choose When Booking Flights to Goa

Goa is one of the quickest destinations to arrive if you’re in the mood for a no-fuss beach vacation. Whether you’re in Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, or Chennai, a flight to Goa will take you to the coastal paradise in just about two hours. Earlier served with the Dabolim airport, Goa now also has another airport – Manohar International Airport or Mopa. So now, between Mopa vs Dabolim, which do you choose when booking flights to Goa? We are here to help.

Mopa Airport

Mopa Airport began its operations in January 2023. It is located in the North of Goa, about 30 km from Panaji. There are regular taxis from the airport to the city. If you’re travelling solo and want a more budget-friendly option, there are buses from Mopa Airport to Panaji too. However, you will have to check their timings and the journey takes roughly 1 hour.

If you want to explore the nightlife and explore around North Goa, Mopa airport is the best for you. Siolim, Calangute, Candolim, Baga and Anjuna Beaches are all close to reach if you arrive at Mopa Airport.

Dabolim Airport

Dabolim Airport was the primary airport serving Goa since 2013. It is located in South Goa, about 27 km from Panaji.

If you plan to explore the quieter side of Goa, you should arrive via the Dabolim Airport. It is closer to the beaches of Colva, Palolem, Majorda, Betalbatim and Agonda.

Mopa or Dabolim: Which Goa Airport To Choose?

When booking flights, take note of your itinerary and where you’d stay in Goa. Choose Mopa if you are living in North Goa and Dabolim if you’re planning to visit lesser-known spots in South Goa.

Goa is one destination that lets you explore two different vibes: liveliness in the North and slow travel in the South. You can arrive at Mopa, explore the northern side, head towards the south and depart from Dabolim. A trip to Goa, where you utilise both its airports, will also give you a fair idea of where to book your next Goa flights.

If you’re travelling to Goa for the first time, book the flight to Mopa airport. Since it is relatively new, it is better equipped and has more infrastructure like private lounges, open spaces, and luxury stores, for a better travel experience. The only downside is that it is farther from South Goa, so it will take you longer to reach your accommodation there.

Dabolim is more convenient if you specifically want to explore South Goa. You can reach the tranquil beaches in just about half an hour once you arrive. Since, it is smaller, it can get crowded during the peak season in Goa. North Goa vs South Goa: Best Ultra Luxurious Villas for Rent

Goa has always seen an influx of tourists, especially during summers and year-end seasons. The addition of Mopa airport has helped to reduce the passenger traffic, thus catering with better services to all tourists.
